Cookies Policy

Last updated: 29 October 2026

This site doesn't use advertising or tracking cookies, and it doesn't use Google Analytics. That's why there's no cookie banner. This page lists everything the site stores in your browser, and why.

Cookies that keep the site working

These are strictly necessary, so they don't need your consent.

  • ghost-members-ssr and ghost-members-ssr.sig (this site): keep you signed in after you click a sign-in link. They're only set when you sign in, and they last six months or until you sign out.
  • csrf_token (this site): a security token that protects forms on the site against forged requests. It lasts 30 days.
  • __stripe_mid and __stripe_sid (set by Stripe on this site): help Stripe spot fraudulent payments. Because the site takes Supporter payments, Stripe's script loads on every page. __stripe_mid lasts a year and __stripe_sid lasts 30 minutes.
  • m (m.stripe.com): Stripe's own fraud prevention cookie, which lasts up to two years.

Session storage

  • ghost-history (this site): records the pages you view in the current tab, so that if you subscribe, Ghost can show me which post led to it. It's deleted when you close the tab, and you can block it in your browser's site settings without breaking anything.

Visitor statistics

The site uses Ghost's built-in analytics. It doesn't set cookies or store an identifier in your browser; it counts visitors within 24-hour windows. There's more detail in the Privacy Policy.

Embedded content

Some posts include content from other sites, like YouTube videos. Those sites may set their own cookies when the content loads or plays, under their own cookie policies.

Left over from before

Until October 2026 the site used Google Analytics and a cookie banner from Termly. If you visited back then, your browser may still hold their cookies (_ga and names starting _ga_) and a TERMLY_API_CACHE entry. The site no longer reads or renews any of them, so you can delete them safely.

Controlling cookies

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you block the sign-in cookies you won't stay signed in, and if you block Stripe's you won't be able to pay for a Supporter subscription. Reading the site works either way.
